Hepatic vein thrombosis

• Doppler US has high sensitivity using the following criteria:
  1. Hepatic vein(s) seen on gray scale with no detectable flow or reversed flow on color Doppler
  2. Hepatic vein(s) not seen on either gray-scale or color Doppler ultrasound.
• Not as specific in advanced cirrhosis however as 15% of these patients will have one or more hepatic veins that cannot be identified on gray scale or color Doppler even in the absence of hepatic vein thrombosis
