Renal oncocytoma
- Benign
- ~1/3 have central stellate scar detectable on CECT (overall ~50% of oncocytomas have central stellate scar on pathology)
- Nonspecific sonographic appearance and overlaps with RCC
- RCC central necrosis or hemorrhage can simulate a central scar
- These lesions should almost always be surgically removed or ablated since they can't reliably be differentiated from RCC (unless core-needle biopsy is performed which proves oncocytoma)
